Kaiyu's character sheet

Kaiyu is a tall, lean teenage boy with straight grayish-brown hair that is tied in a ponytail and lazy-looking brown eyes.

He is usually seen slumped over a bit and holding red timpani mallets. His signature outfit is a green hoodie over his school uniform.

Personality[]

Kaiyu is laid-back, but not lazy. He brings up good points, and is described as an intellectual by Haruta Kamijō during a case.

He could be described as fidgety as he is constantly fiddling with his timpani mallets.

Background[]

Chronology[]

Kaiyu dropped out of school to take his late grandfather's place to run a retirement home, and his departure caused the Brass Club's disbandment. During this time, he runs a radio station with the elders at the retirement home. Despite some misgivings, he ultimately chooses to return to school and join the club.

Etymology[]

  • The name Kaiyu means "circle" (界雄).
  • Kaiyu's surname Hiyama means "Japanese cypress, white cedar" (檜) (hi) and "mountain, hill" (山) (yama).
    • Japanese cypress is a species of cypress native to central Japan in East Asia, and widely cultivated in the temperate northern hemisphere for its high quality timber and ornamental qualities, with many cultivars commercially available.
